Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) are voluntary groups of individuals or organizations that aim to provide non-profitable services. They play an important role in the development of a nation on the field of education, health care, sports, women empowerment etc to the non-privileged section of the population.

Requirements of NGO registration

Section 8 company registration

·        Minimum two directors from the incorporation of section 8 company

·         as a private limited company.

·        Minimum three directors for registration of section 8 company

·         as a public limited company.

·        At least one director should be a resident of India.

·        Registered office address.

·        The objective of the company should be a charitable or social purpose only.

Trust registration

·        A minimum of three members are required for the registration of a trust.

·        All the members must be a resident of India. 

·        Registered office address.


Society registration

·        A Minimum of nine members are required.

·        At least three members act as president, secretary and treasurer.

·        All members must be a resident of India.

·        Registered office address.


Note : Effective from April 1, 2021, all NGOs need to file Form CSR-1 to register with the Central Government to get CSR funding.
